The peace of Mahogany Heights at the extreme western edge of the Belize District was shaken this Monday morning by gunfire around 7:00 a.m. Later in the day the body of 40 year old Kevin Flowers was found on the roadside showing a single gunshot to the head. Police have just begun their investigations and Supt. Hilberto Romero discusses what they know so far.
“Around seven a.m., police were called to a feeder road at Mahogany Heights area. Police visited the area and found the body of Kevin Flowers, thirty-four years, with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigations so far reveal that gunshots were heard this morning sometime between six and seven am and thereafter somebody passed through the small feeder road and found his body
And while the police is still gathering the information about the murder, the 37 year old wife of Kevin Flowers says police need to step up their game in the community of Mahogany Heigths.
“My husband works at the Tilapia farm. He doesn’t trouble anyone up here. The police hear gunshot over and over up here. They are not doing their job. All they are doing is interfere in people’s lives up here, instead of doing their job. I would really want they do something about this or change the policeman. I was at work and my cousin call me and told me that something has happened at home. When I call my sister, they already knew, but they didn’t want to tell me anything and so they brought me up here and I saw my husband down there. They didn’t allow me to see him because they said that the Scenes of Crime unit has to come. He got shot since 7am this morning and the Scenes of Crime unit hasn’t arrived as yet. Every minute the policeman lifts of his head, lifts up the sheet and what can he do? He can’t save his life, he is dead already. The policeman hasn’t spoken with me as yet about it. I don’t think he has any enemies up here. I see him going to work and coming home. He doesn’t walk about or anything so I don’t know what happen but I want to know what happens. “
In 2013 Kevin Flowers got in trouble with the law for firearm offences. Flowers’ murder is the third in less than 24 hours in the Belize District. Police continue to investigate it.
