Six men were arraigned on charges in relation to an attempted robbery. On Monday, we reported that due to Police’s quick response, they were able to foil a robbery attempt at the Northern Fisherman’s Cooperative on North Front Street in Belize City. The six persons: a taxi driver- Gilroy Thompson, Dorian Blair, Aaron Flowers, Kenroy Vanzie, Collect Montero, and a minor were apprehended in that incident and appeared in Court before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza. They were charged with keeping a 1.9 mm unlicensed firearm along with 12 live rounds of ammunition. The five adults pleaded not guilty to the charges while the minor attempted to plead guilty. However, Magistrate Mendoza conferred with the minor and his father en camera, thereafter, the Magistrate decided not to accept the guilty plea since it appeared that the minor failed to understand what he was being charged with. All 6 persons were denied bail and remanded into custody. The minor was remanded to the Belize Youth Hostel, while the others were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until March 13, 2017.
