MOE investigates disturbing report in Succotz school
Date: Wed 01, Feb 2012 |
The Ministry of Education says that it is investigating a complaint made by a parent from the Village of Succotz. Thursday of last week the media reported that the hair of a thirteen year old student of Victorious Nazarene School in San Jose Succotz was shaved off. Maria Barrera says that her son, Nair Leal, was held down by 4 teachers  and the school principal so that his hair could be shaved off with an electric hair clipper. What is interesting is that according Barrera, she did not receive complaints from the school about the child’s behaviour so she was taken by surprise. She told the media that she has also not received an explanation from the school as to the reason why they shaved her son’s hair.  According to Arlette Gomez, Public relations for MOE,- quote-“the Ministry will not condone teachers inflicting any kind of physical punishment on a student. The incident is currently being investigated through the Cayo District Education Center and the MOE Belmopan office.” – end quote.
