Concerned group of professionals submit report on HFLE book
 | |
Concerned citizens across Belize have been in a moral battle against the LGBT agenda being promoted in Belize by various domestic and foreign entities. It was recently brought to Plus News’ attention that a manual aligned with this agenda, contains questionable materiel sponsored by the Peace Core. What made it even more an issue for concern is that the book is found in primary schools across the country. The matter was briefly addressed on Plus TV’s Rise and Shine which prompted Minister of Education Hon. Faber to comment, stating that he did not have any knowledge concerning the presence of such a book within the Primary Schools. Since then, a full review of the manual was conducted by a committee. That committee included a medical doctor, adjunct lecturer at UB, persons with master’s degrees in counselling, Christian counsellors, experienced teachers with curriculum development experience, representative of the Lion’s Quest program, and pastors. The report was compiled by all involved in the review and a copy submitted to the Minister of Education, the CEO in the Ministry of Education and the Prime Minister.
Louis Wade Jr., Director, PlusTV
Well it is said that the pen is mightier than the sword and if that is true, then it means that anything that is penned or written, especially for our elementary school kids can be potentially mightier than an invading army. So we took on the opportunity to do a review of this HFLE manual that was produced by the Peace Core and that is finished now and we decided to hand it in today to the Ministry of Education. So we created three packages; a package each for the Minister of Education, the Chief Executive Officer and the Prime Minister of Belize. Those three were delivered today.
We asked Wade why they found it necessary to review the content included in the book titled, “ Education today for a Healthy Tomorrow, Teacher's Guide Lessons for HFLE Curriculum”.
Louis Wade Jr.
We had received a couple of complaints from teachers that there was a book circulating within the system that contained questionable information, especially since this period of time, where the country is faced with the issue of the homosexual agenda and the lawsuit from UNIBAM. At the Belize Action Rally in Belize City in December of last year, one teacher came and actually brought a book for me and opened it to a specific page and that page did contain questionable information. So I read it to the public and that was when we decided that we wanted to do a thorough review of this book. Since then, late December, the Minister of Education Patrick Faber gave me a call asking about the book and he requested that we allow him to see the report, so that he could evaluate what to do.
We asked Wade what they are expecting after having submitted their review today.
Louis Wade Jr.
The Prime Minister is still the Prime Minister and Cabinet still oversees all the activities of Belize and for that reason, we are confident that by handing it in today, that there is still an opportunity for a review to be done of our review. For safety, we ensured that we made a copy for the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Education, because the work of the Ministry must continue and that manual is still in the system. So we are waiting now for an official response from the Ministry of Education and we are quite hopeful that the recommendation of the committee is going to be followed.
Wade says they are giving the ministry of education some time to review the committee’s findings and recommendations before publicly discussing those findings.
