Mena family denied access into The Wood Depot
Mena family denied access into The Wood Depot
Date: Mon 06, Feb 2012 |
Plus news began receiving information this morning from several sources that the Mena brothers, along with their father, and other workers were not being granted entrance to The Wood Depot. When PlusNews arrived at the Business this morning, information was still not forthcoming, but we observed the father along with two sons outside the property communicating with each other and police personnel who were on site. We also noticed that other vehicles were allowed to enter and leave the compound but not the case for the Mena's. The Wood Depot has been under receivership since July of 2010 but we learnt today that previously, thee Mena's were allowed to enter the compound. However, that ended today when the Mena's were presented with a writ from receiver Craig Waterman. That writ prevented them from accessing the Compound of The Wood Depot effective TODAY. The Mena's still showed up today trying to negotiate their way into the compound but police personnel attached to the Belmopan Branch did NOT grant them entry. PlusNews understands that the receiver informed them that they needed to take the matter up with the courts. They were not granted entry. You may remember that back in July of 2010 we had reported that the Wood Depot and Fresh Catch of the Mena Group of Companies was placed under receivership by the First Caribbean International Bank. In June of last year a proposed 14.9 million dollar loan from Social Security for the Nature Fresh Fish Farm was also rejected by the Social Security Board of Directors to bail out that company. The Mena Group of Companies; which comprises of BADI Enterprises, Jebco Construction, The Wood Depot and Fresh Catch Tilapia Farm, have been in Business for many years in Belize; the Menas own some of  Belmopan’s largest businesses. We have been reliably informed that the auction of the Business will take place the 20th of February, that’s later this month.
