HARRY ARZU – Dangriga Correspondent:
Independence Police have now formally charged two persons today on gun related offenses. Police were at the Georgetown Technical High School Fair, on Sunday February 24th, providing security for the large number of people who were attending the event, when at about 2:30 pm they reported that they observed a male person who was in the company of a 16 years-old female minor, at the Georgetown Junction of the Southern Highway, acting in a suspicious manner. Police also say that they noticed when the male individual handed over a bag to the minor. As a result, Police say that they conducted a search of the bag, and discovered inside it a 9 mm caliber weapon with a black magazine containing 4 live rounds. A further search of the male person, who was later identified by Police as 22 years-old Matthew Wade of Hopkins Village, resulted in the discovery of 4 grams of cannabis. Both Wade and the minor were arrested and escorted to the Independence Police Station, where they have been detained since yesterday. They have been charged for keeping a firearm and ammunition without a gun license, while Wade was additionally charged for drug possession.
