Market vendors are protesting the relocation of the Belmopan Farmers Market. Two weeks ago, we told you that the Belmopan City Council decided that the Tuesday and Friday market would be relocated from the Civic Center parking lot to the Agricultural and Trade Show grounds. This was after residents of Piccini and Picinni Extension learned that the Council wanted to place the market in their area, specifically on the ground of Blogo Park. They would have none of it and that’s when the council decided on the Agric grounds; but vendors are still not pleased with the Council’s decision to go there. So today, they pulled off an impromptu demonstration. However, Belmopan Police quickly disbanded the crowd of 30 as they had no permit and were acting illegally. Plus news spoke to one of the organizers who says that they will be meeting tomorrow as a collective body and will be getting a legal permit to protest against the council’s recent decision. The Tuesday and Friday Market would be moved to the Agricultural and Trade Show grounds within this month, and is expected to be located there for the next 12 months. Plus news will keep you updated as this story develops.
