American fugitive escapes legal custody and is recaptured in Roaring Creek. On Monday April 28th, we reported to you that an American Fugitive, identified as 52 year old Martin Chapman, wanted in the US for several criminal offences was apprehended in Roaring Creek village, Belmopan.
One of the offences for which he is wanted is for the crime of the attempting to escape a police officer while on a mobile vehicle. According to what Belmopan police had told us, Chapman was in the process of being extradited back to the U.S.
However, at around 3:32 p.m. on Sunday, May 4th, Chapman was reportedly cleaning his cell when he reportedly slipped pass police authorities during a change of shift.
According to Belmopan Police, only one officer was in the station at the time and in fear of leaving the other prisoners unattended, the officer decided not to pursue Chapman; however the Quick Response Team was immediately alerted and a search party was deployed as well as wanted posters were sent out to every police station country wide.
At around 6:00 am this morning, based on a tip received from a resident, Police visited village of Roaring Creek. There, in an area known as Global Area in Roaring Creek, Belmopan, they found and apprehended the runaway American fugitive.
In the words of the Officer Commanding the Belmopan Police, Supt. Howell Gillett, American fugitive Martin Chapman is scheduled to be extradited early tomorrow morning.
