American tourist 39-year-old Anne Elizabeth McComb Swaney from Rockwell Chicago Illinois U.S.A was reported missing on Thursday in the Cayo District and found dead on Friday morning. 40-year-old Santiago Juan of Nabitunich Farm, owner of Hanna’s Stable on the George Price Highway, near San Jose Succotz, reported Swaney missing yesterday January 14th. Today, January 15, the woman’s body was found in the river with injuries to the head and what appears to be bruise marks around the neck. Swaney was staying at a cabin at the resort and went to the river to conduct yoga. The owners of the resort became concerned when she did not return by evening. Police tells us more.

Andrew Ramirez, O.C., San Ignacio Police: About yesterday morning, January fourteenth 2016 about eight a.m., a group of tourists who were staying at a place known as Nabitunich; that would be at the outskirts of Succotz village, Cayo District, when one of them decided to stay back to do some sort of exercise. Her name was Anne Elizabeth McComb Swaney, she is a U.S. national, thirty-nine years old of Chicago, U.S.A. Extensive searches were conducted yesterday evening by K-nine and Benque Viejo police. Sometime this morning, the body was found floating in the Mopan River and almost nude with the exception of a bra that was on her and signs of injuries on her head. So we believe that it was a murder.
Police are classifying it as murder even as they await a post mortem examination. Police say they have no suspects at this time. Swaney came to Belize on January 9 and was staying at the resort for 7 days. She worked in the news field as executive producer of online operations at abc7chicago.com.
