She told our colleagues at Krem news that all day on Sunday, she felt a sense of foreboding.
When she received a call from her son’s girlfriend around 11 p.m. she knew something had happened to him. It turned out her motherly intuition had been right.
Dezhaun Humes had been shot 4 times several feet away from his home on Jane Usher Boulevard in Belize City while returning from purchasing food for his girlfriend.
“He went out to buy food for his girlfriend, and upon arriving back home, that’s when he encounters with the person”.
Reporter: “Was the person walking, laying wait for him?”
Mrs. Francine Pitts: “I believe so”.
Reporter: “Did it happen near his house; what street?”
Mrs. Francine Pitts: “He lives on the Jane Usher boulevard area, right?”
Reporter: “How many feet away from his house was he?”
Mrs. Francine Pitts: “I can’t say approximately how many feet because I wasn’t there, but what the police told me was that he wasn’ t far away from his house. So, it’s probably
Reporter: “And the time it happened?”
Mrs. Francine Pitts: “It’s around between 10:30 and 11:00 because I got the call at 11:00 o’clock”.
Humes was shot to the foot, pelvis, hand and spine. The gunshot on his spine remains lodged there and he will have to wait until Monday for a specialist to review his condition:
Mrs. Francine Pitts: “I don’t know my son as anyone to give trouble. I don’t see it; I am not a mother saying that he is a trouble person when he is not, but he is never striked, he never got any threat. Any one didn’t come and complain about Dezhaun fasting, with any one fighting. He is a humble child”.
Reporter: “You as a mother have already lost a child two years ago. Where do you find strength to deal with all of this?”
Mrs. Francine Pitts: “Well, the strength comes from God, you know, and Hwe has said in His Word that he will never leave me nor forsake me”, and I believe it. When I got that call that night from his girlfriend, something deep in my spirit told me that Dezhaun got shot”.
Police have yet to detain anyone in this shooting incident.
