An attempted armed robbery in the village of Armenia, in the Cayo District, was foiled when the victim fought back. According to police, at around 7:45 pm on Saturday July 26th, Salvador Vasquez, a food vendor of Armenia Village, was arriving home in the company of his wife. Upon exiting his vehicle, Mr Vasquez was approached by two armed men, who demanded he hand over all the money.
“A struggle ensued between the assailant and the complainant, where the complainant received gunshot wounds to both his feet and his left arm. Mr Vasquez then pulled his machete, and inflicted a large cut wound to one of the assailants. Both of them were taken to the Belmopan Hospital, where one of the suspects, who received the injuries, was later transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he is presently undergoing treatment, and as well he’s under police guard.
He is presently suffering from a large cut wound to left side of his jaw, and his left wrist received a large cut wound.
The person who received the injuries, who is in the Belize City Hospital, he is cooperating with the police, and he gave us certain information. We are now in the process of locating two other suspects.”
Police hope to make an arrest by the end of the week.
