ASR/BSI and Belize Workers Union Sign Agreement

After negotiations stemming from November of last year, BSI ASR and the Belize Workers Union, signed an agreement today regarding salary increase for permanent workers at the Belize Sugar Industries.  Belize Workers union  was asking for a 15% increment to be signed for a one year period before any new negotiations for salary could take place. As negotiations continued, BSI /ASR agreed to a 12.5% increase signed for a four year period.  The union was able to reach certain other points of agreement over incentives for employees. During those negotiations, BSI/ ASR had made the request that labour commissioner Ivan Williams not be present for the negotiations or signing. Even with that request, the union negotiators were authorized by their members to proceed with the signing of the agreement. That signing took place this morning in Orange Walk Town
