The Belize Council for the Visually Impaired (BCVI) held its annual general meeting and open day today in Belize City. It was another successful year for the organization which sees to the needs of Belizeans with less than perfect eyesight and those who need help to adjust to blindness. Thousands of specialized procedures, prescriptions for eyeglasses and other special needs were seen to in the course of the year and the organization got a boost in the public eye from the exploits of Rowan Garel, who last year walked across the country of Belize to raise funds for the rehabilitation program. On Friday, he will be diving the Blue Hole for further fundraising efforts. The organization’s annual summer camp for visually impaired students also closed today with an open day where their work was displayed.
