This past Sunday on the AMC show “Breaking Bad,” Belize got a mention, but not in a good way. In fact, the attorney to the show’s lead character, a high school chemistry teacher turned maker of methamphetamine, suggested he send an annoying DEA agent on a trip to Belize, not for a visit, but permanently, as in killing him. In a classic case of making lemonade from lemons, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), who are apparently “big fans” of the show, went on Twitter and suggested the actors come to see the Jewel for themselves , and not as a burial site. They have now gone even further, as the BTB’s director of marketing Alyssa Carnegie told the New York Times Thursday morning that the Board is willing to sponsor free vacations at the conclusion of this season, the show’s last, for its creator Vince Gilligan and lead actors Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul among others. We contacted the BTB’s offices this evening and were told that Carnegie was out of office until September 2nd, so we have no word on if there was a response to the offer. The show has been nominated four times for top drama television program in the U.S. and its actors have been nominated for and won multiple awards.
