Tonight is round two of Belize Vs Team Canada. The game is being played at FFB stadium in Belmopan at 7 pm. Three nil was the final score of the Belize Canada game on Friday September 4th. Tosaint Ricketts on the Canadian team scored one goal in each half to give the Canadians a comfortable lead. At the 87 minute mark, another goal was scored by Canada by Atiba Hutchinson. The Belize National Team flew back into the country yesterday for their second game against Canada tonight, September 8th. Assistant Coach Charlie Slusher told us what he thought about how the first game on Friday went and how the team is feeling
Charlie Slusher: First of all I just wanna say that we have to give the players a lot of credit. I think they did as best as they could have done that night for that game and so we are proud of them. As the coaching staff I know, just like how many of our Belizean fans feel, we are disappointed about the results. We are not disappointed with our team, but with the results because we know that we have prepared for that game and we could have done much better. At the end of the day we have to now focus on the game on Tuesday because at this point in time, you can find a million and one reason why we lost 3 goals to nil and we don’t want to do that. We don’t want to be pointed fingers on our players. We win together, we lose together, and we now have got to focus on getting a win, an impressive win on Tuesday even to qualify if possible.
Slusher talked about what needs to change in tonight’s game if Belize wants to stay alive in the World Cup.
Charlie Slusher: I think the main important thing is that we have to execute our game plan. What we saw when it comes to the team laying back in our own half was definitely not our game plan going into Canada. If you notice when the team started the game, we were three quarter of the field pressing the Canadians and then eventually we fell all the way deep in our defense line and we knew that, from all the practice, all the sessions that we did we knew that if we did that we would get hurt by the Canadians and that’s what happened. Really and truly we didn’t execute our game plan and again it was definitely not a defensive plan to, or in other words, part of our plan was definitely not to defend on our half of the field. We should have started our defensive line from three quarter of the field, and you saw that when the game begin, as well as when the second half begin, we started to where we wanted to defend but eventually we probably lost focus and we fell deep in our own half defending the team.
Goal Keeper for Belize’s National Team, Woodrow West, shared his feelings about the game on Friday and says that he believes they can get the win at home tonight.
Woodrow West: Well it nevah turn out the way I expected it to be. But I guess that’s how the game is played. The errors we made are not acceptable at this level. I think the players themselves need to stay more focused and listen to the coach a little bit more. We need to remember that we’re playing for our country, it’s not just for ourselves and I think with all that the players didn’t have all that in mind. Until the game is over then we realized that we could have done better than that. It’s too late now. The only good thing about it is that we have another game Tuesday night and in football a lot of things happen and I believe that we could win the game Tuesday night. Even if we don’t get the 3 goals but I still think that we could pull off the win and we’re going to try get the 3 goals but I believe that we could win home still.
Belize’s second game against Canada is tonight at 7pm at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.
