Members of a Taiwanese Rotary youth group are spending their summer vacation in Belize helping out with various projects in the country. They were welcomed on Tuesday by newly-arrived Ambassador Benjamin Ho.
“I welcome you here. I hope you enjoy [your] stay here. I hope you can know better about Belize. It’s a beautiful country. I was very lucky [that] I was here before, and I’m so happy to be back again. I hope you can enjoy every minute of your stay here. Belizean are so hospitable, so friendly. It’s such a beautiful country. I do believe you will enjoy it here.”
One of the student volunteers explained their plans for their stay here.
“We are going to live in Belize about thirty-five days, and there are three parts that we will do. We will deal with the public sector or private sector like Rotary Club. The second part, we will have educational services. That is our main part. We will go to schools to have IT course and some cultural exchange activities. We will teach them about abuti. It is a very famous food in Taiwan. Then the final part, we will do community service. This is a new part that we begin this year. It is very important because we would like to connect to the locals and know the locals’ needs, and we will have painting in San Antonio and we will be visiting in San Antonio too. We are going to the town and go to the house, and have a first-hand experience with the locals, talking to them and then get together with them, and have a day [there] and to see what they need.”
