A Belizean national has been sentenced to life in prison in the US penitentiary, after he pleaded guilty to the murder of his estranged girlfriend’s daughter. 41 year old Juan Enrique Torres, in an attempt to avoid being charged with capital murder and going to trial, plead guilty last week Thursday to the stabbing death of 15 year old Surie Baeza, which occurred on October 30 2012 in Rockwall, Texas. Police say that the day after Surie was killed, Torres was arrested for traffic warrants and he confessed to the murder the next day. Torres admitted that he and Suzie got into an argument regarding a ring, which led to him hitting her in head with a wooden closet rod and then stabbing her repeatedly with a kitchen knife. Torres had been living in the US on a passport, since 2003. But he will now spend a life sentence, with the eligibility of parole in 30 years. If he should ever be granted parole, Torres is most likely be deported to Belize, and to this he says, “That would be a good thing for me.” Suzie had stayed home from school that fatal afternoon, because she wasn’t feeling well. Suzie was an honor student at the Heath High School, she was a member of her high school band and had ambitions of becoming a veterinarian.
