The Belize Cancer Society Belmopan Branch is hosting its annual Cancer Walk this Saturday starting at 5:15 sharp. Beverly Swasey of the Belize Cancer Society dropped by our studios to talk about the fund raising event.
If you pay $25, you pay for the walk, you will get a band on the wrist band and a T-shirt along with it or a tom cap. You don’t have to have a T-shirt to walk, so, don’t let that deter you. Students and younger children who want to participate, they don’t pay anything; they just come and register. We encourage all Belmopanese, and people from the surrounding areas, come out to support the Society because we want to better serve you education wise and financial wise, (when people in the Society who cannot afford to pay for treatments, come to us”.
According to Swasey, the funds raised for the event will go towards the construction of the Cancer Multipurpose center.
Beverly Swasey: “For our walk, we usually put most of it towards our cancer multipurpose building that we are hoping to start this year. We have been saying every year that we will start, but things have not been going in the direction to get that started on the ground”.
Reporter Emanuel Pech: “Is the walk just for women or is it for anybody who wants top participate?”
Beverly Swasey: “It is for everybody; for people who have lost loved ones, for those who want to support people with cancer, for the caregivers of cancer patients, for those who have had several people in their family having cancer; it’s for everybody”.
A bus will be taking people to Camalote where the Walk will start at 6:00 pm. Registration you can register to be a part of this walk at the DFC headquarters in Belmopan.
