Bert Vasquez, the man believed to have kidnapped and murdered 13 year old Jasmine Lowe, of Santa Elena, Cayo, was arraigned at the Magistrate’s court in San Ignacio on Tuesday earlier this week.
In June 2012, Vasquez was arraigned on charges based on the complaint of 13 girls, all from the District of Cayo, who alleged that Vasquez had asked them to get in his car and he would give them money.
At the time of his arraignment, thousands of angry residents of Cayo District surrounded the Magistrate’s court demanding justice. In the end, Bert Vasquez received charges of one count of abduction, eleven counts of common assault, one count of aggravated assault and an additional count of murder. Bert Vasquez was remanded to prison and returned to court in March earlier this year, where he was represented by Senior Counsel Simeon Sampson.
On Tuesday earlier this week, he appeared at the Magistrate’s court unrepresented by an attorney. The DDP in this case is George Gomez. The case was adjourned to October 28th where the trial now moves to the Supreme Court.
