Mr. Bert Vasquez will stand trial in the Supreme Court without jury. Yesterday, Vasquez was in the San Ignacio Magistrate’s Court for the results of his preliminary inquiry. Mr. Bert Vasquez was accused of the murder of 13 year old Jasmine Lowe back in June 2012.
It is believed that Vasquez kidnapped the girl and then killed her before dumping her body on a farm in Cristo Rey village. The body was found days after her disappearance and was already in an advanced state of decomposition so police could not tell if there was any sexual assault.
Vasquez’s lawyer, Simeon Sampson submitted to the court that his client should not have to stand trial because the doctor could not specify what was the cause of the girls’ death and there was no concrete evidence linking his client to the crime. However, the DPP said that there is enough circumstantial evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Vasquez committed the crime.
Magistrate Narda Morgan committed the case to the next available session of the Supreme Court.
