Belize City businessman Bert Vasquez made headlines last year when he was charged with the murder of 13 year old San Ignacio resident Jasmine Lowe. This led to a domino effect of numerous under-aged girls accusing Vasquez of trying to lure them into his car, with one teen even alleging that he sexually assaulted her. He was later charged with eleven counts of common assault and one count of aggravated assault. Before he even had his first day in court though, Vasquez was already found guilty in the court of public opinion. Well, yesterday he had his day in court, and it was a rather short session, as six of the common assault charges were dropped. Vasquez is scheduled to return to court in mid-April. He remains at the Belize Central Prison, awaiting trial for the murder of Jasmine Lowe.
