The Coast Guard’s Best Warrior Competition was held for the second year last week, and the winners acknowledged on Saturday.
The tournament tests the fitness, strength and endurance of its members, and includes grueling tasks such as a 2 mile ocean swim, a 6 mile run, 4 mile obstacle course, and trekking miles saddled with heavy weights.
At the end of Friday’s challenges, the Fleet Team was in the lead, followed by BSAG, Seals in third place, the Recruits in fourth, and the Officers Squad in fifth place.
On Saturday was the march and shoot competition. At 6:30 am, the groups assembled at the Boom Bridge, saddled with heavy gear including a 40 pound Bergan. By 7 am, the Officers Squad which had placed last in Friday’s challenge, set off, with each other group leaving in ten minute intervals. Along the way, they met some containers and stretchers that they also had to take with them. Grueling work, but when they arrived at the range, rest was not an option as they were issued ammunition for a shooting competition.
The winners at the end of the day was Fleet team.
