The 43rd Annual Belize National Teachers Union Convention kicked off today in Belmopan. The theme for this year’s two day event is “BNTU – Overcoming Challenges, Embracing Opportunities in Education.” Official opening ceremonies were held this morning, where Mayor of Belmopan Simeon Lopez, welcomed the congregation of teachers and school administration to the capital city. Keynote address was given by Ambassador of the US, His Excellency Vinai K. Thummalapally. Several activities filled the day, including a cultural presentation, an award presentation and a presidential address by BNTU President Luke Palacio. Meanwhile, this afternoon, a business meeting was held, along with a presentation on the “Belize Teaching Service Commission” from Chairperson Judy Diego. Today’s gathering culminated with a Meeting of Resolution Committee.
