The Belize Tourism Board, which was recently rocked by scandal after the forced resignation of its Director of Tourism, Laura Esquivel Frampton, announced today the Appointment of a New Director of Tourism.
She is Mrs. Karen Bevans. If the name sounds familiar, that is because she was the former Chief Operations Officer at Belize Telemedia Limited BTL until two days ago, March 31st, 2014. Bevans holds a MSc degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, and a BSc degree in Management and Psychology from the University of Ozarks in Arkansas. Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Civil Aviation, Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr. has commented that
“We are very happy to welcome Karen Bevans to the organization. Her impeccable reputation precedes her and we certainly expect to see great things from her. We look forward to working with her as we continue to build momentum.”
On stepping down from Belize Telemedia in the middle of several major changes at the Company, Bevans had declined interviews with the media, telling Cannel 7 by text that it is, quote, “just a career move to explore personal business interests.”
She told News Five in January she is ready to do her own thing. Well, today was her first day as Director of Tourism. We wish her well on her new appointment.
