vlcsnap-2013-08-30-11h15m17s98This Saturday, August 31st, starting at 9:00am at the Memorial Park, we’ll be having the second Village Arts and Craft  Expo.  The Expo is where we bring local artisans from across the country to one central location in the city, to promote the handicrafts, the Belizean products that they make.  We have approximately 140 participants this year.  We have items varying from slate carving to wood sculpting and textiles.  You name it, it will be there. We’re inviting the general public to come out on Saturday from 9am to 4 pm at the Village Arts and craft Expo.

Mr Myers offers more details about the structure of the event.

Clive Myers – Coordinator:

Last year was an extremely successful event, where we had eighty participants.  We also had some hoteliers, gift shop owners, come out to support the local artisans.  This year we expect the same kind of turnout, since we have more people coming out from the villages, and we have a stronger representation from each District.    There are a couple of objectives for the village Arts and Crafts Expo.  The Expo itself is an event that’s born from out of the Village Outreach Project, which is an initiative that the Destination Planning department from BTB has been embarking on, whereas to take the local residents of our country along with tourists, to start visiting these remote areas of the country, where they can definitely find a large wealth of cultural tourism, and support these artists in the craft and whatever kind of art or form that they do.

Activities start at 9am at the Memorial Park.
