There was an accident on the George Price Highway this afternoon, Thursday June 9, sometime around 2:30 p.m. when a BTL vehicle collided into a cargo truck. The accident happened at mile 35 on the George Price Highway. The vegetable vendor, Guermo Canto, was driving his cargo truck headed to Belmopan as tomorrow is “Market Day” in the capital city. Following two cars behind him were his wife and two brothers who were in a black Mitsubishi Nativa. In between the cargo truck and the Mitsubishi was another unidentified vehicle. Coming in the opposite direction, heading towards Belize City was a white Isuzu Dmax, property of Belize Telemedia Ltd. According to initial reports, the driver of the Dmax lost control and slammed into the cargo truck, missed the vehicle following the cargo truck and then slammed into the wife’s vehicle. We spoke to Guermo Canto who told us about the accident.
Voice of Guillermo Canto, Driver of Freight Truck in Accident: I was heading towards Belmopan when the BTL Dmax just swerved into my lane and knocked into my truck. There was a second car behind me and he managed to come off of the road and went in the bushes. Then he managed to hit the 3rd vehicle that was behind me. My wife was driving the vehicle and she is at the hospital right now and we were going home to Belmopan from Orange Walk.

The driver of the BTL vehicle and the Mitsubishi passengers; Canto’s wife and two brothers, were all taken to hospital. Canto told us more about the degree of injuries of the accident victims as far as he knows.
