There was concern at the Belize City head office of Belize Water Services Thursday afternoon when the building emptied as a result of a bomb threat called in around 12 noon. Earlier in the morning there was damage to two vehicles in the Central American Boulevard compound caused by what appeared to be two Molotov cocktails – incendiary devices thrown into the compound by persons unknown. BWS’ public relations chief Haydon Brown gives details.

“Just wanted to indicate that this morning when we arrived at work, we found two of our company’s vehicle being with minor damage, and the preliminary reports that we received is that there was object up thrown into the yard by an unidentified person at this person in time, that created this damage caused to our vehicles, no? Later on, probably about quarter to twelve, we received a bomb threat call through our receptionist, our help desk, and this was conveyed to all our staff, at which point we evacuated our premises”.
Workers were safely brought out to the company-managed public park next to the City Centre site and at nearby Save-U supermarket parking lot over the Belcan Bridge. No one was hurt and Haydon Brown says the matter is under investigation.
“We don’t know that these have any relations but, I wouldn’t say that we do have any idea of who created or caused, who could have cause this damages or could have called in the threat.
“What time did this morning found the two objects?”
“This morning, we found that at about 6:30. That’s generally when our staff comes in to office; that was when that was picked up on”.
“…and at what time did you guys, receive the bomb threat?”
“The bomb threat was about quarter to twelve”.
