A man from Camalote Village was shot and killed early Friday morning about one mile from his home. The incident happened shortly after one o’clock Friday morning, in front of Cattle Farm situated in Camalote Village, Cayo District. The victim, 55 year old Gelion de Leon, a nationalized Belizean farmer, was found shot to the back of the head, his body on the ground, and his white Dodge pickup near the body. According to a police statement, when they arrived at the scene, they saw the body at the gate lying face with a large cut to the neck and apparent gun shots behind the right ear, on top of the head, one above the left ear, and two to the left shoulder. Leon’s Dakota cab and a half pickup was parked in front of the gate of Cattle Ranch with the left front door opened. Police were called to the scene after the watchman for cattle ranch heard the dogs barking and suddenly heard several gunshots by the entrance gate of the farm and saw the white pickup parked by the entrance gate. According to police, six 9mm expended shells were found near the body along with one 9mm Luger GTL live round. Also a hammer was found about six feet from the truck. The body of Gelion De Leon was transported to the WRH and lies at the WRH Morgue awaiting a post mortem examination.
