It was raining last night in Caye Caulker, nevertheless, some 400 people took to the sandy streets of the island in a peaceful march in solidarity with the family of the slain teenager Hilberto Sotz. The candle light vigil started around 6 pm where residents and other supporters marched around the main streets of the island holding placards advocating for justice. One of them said, quote “Serve and Protect not murder. My brother was killed innocently. He was detained by Police for no reason. Now he is dead.” Police had taken Sotz in for questioning in relation to a string of robberies. It is believed that while interviewing him police tortured Sotz to his death. Joining the march in solidarity with the family were Councilors from the Cay Caulker Village council including deputy chair lady Enelda Rosado. The candle light vigil went by peacefully and there were no incidents during the solemn march.
