52 year old Donald Heredia, a resident of Caye Caulker, was charged with the murder of 51 year old Jennifer Coleman when he appeared Monday before the Chief Magistrate, Ann-Marie Smith. Heredia was remanded into custody until September 30. Coleman, a domestic worker, was found dead about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 24 at her home on Adventurera Street on the island. There was a large cut wound on her neck. It is alleged that she was cut by a man who frequented her house and it is believed that she ran out of her house after she was injured. Police reported that they have recovered a knife which they believe was the murder weapon. Heredia’s attorney, Darrell Bradley, asked the court that because the accused has had a long history of mental issues, he would like a psychiatric evaluation to be done to determine if Heredia is of sound mind and understands what he faces. The Chief Magistrate ordered one to be done as soon as possible but until then he remains on remand.
