Man dies in head on Collision with Mexican diplomat’s vehicle

vlcsnap-2013-02-27-19h35m17s97Cayo man dies in Western Highway accident. At approximately 7:30 pm last night, police were called out to an area near mile 3 on the George Price highway where the saw 37 year old George David Moro of an 18 Street Address in San Ignacio trapped under the steering wheel of a white Chevy prism. Initial investigations revealed that Moro was driving from Belize City in the direction of Belmopan when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and veered into the path of an oncoming Nissan cruiser being driven at the time by 31 year old Mexican Diplomat Marco Antonio Lopez Leon of Belmopan. Moro was alone and died almost immediately, trapped under the vehicle’s steering wheel. Businessman and witness to the accident Lascelle Arnold told PLUS News that Moro stood no chance:

Lascelle Arnold – Witness:
vlcsnap-2013-02-27-19h33m14s178We were going up to Belmopan and we see an accident.  The had already take out the five people.  They come out the vehicle.  The five was in the car.  One person was in the white taxi.  He was still beating when we reached there.  We opened the door and he was still alive, breathing.   Apparently he was all the way underneath of the dashboard. The seat snapped back completely.  They had a little girl, 4 – 6 years old, three females and a Diplomat from Mexico.

As for Leon and his passengers, they all sustained minor injuries. Arnold, one of the first to respond to the scene and render aid, tells us what he saw.

Lascelle Arnold – Witness:
[Taxi Driver George Moro] was on one side of the road.  Apparently he wanted to turn into that feeder road going in. From what we understand, he had a car that was behind him, and when he turned on the wrong side to turn off on the road,  the next car see him coming in his lane, and the car turned on the other side.  Then apparently he realized the car was coming to a collision, and he turned back. And then the next guy looked like he turned back too, and so they hit one another.

Arnold also suggests that more Belizeans should learn first aid:

Lascelle Arnold – Witness:
vlcsnap-2013-02-27-19h33m40s109As Belizeans, I think we should all get trained in this type of emergency,  because the Ambulance will not be on scene when the accident happens.  But if people that is trained, and people have some idea about making sure they don’t move people too quickly, or make sure that they talk to the person who is in the accident, [that would] help a lot.  When the ambulance come, they might have two persons in the Ambulance.  We have five people on the streets, on the roadside.  You have one in another vehicle.  Two persons coming in an Ambulance can’t help, can’t work.  So if more of the public will be trained, or have idea about helping with equipment, moving equipment, making and putting on braces and stuff like that, will go a long way in Belize

The incident is under investigation.
