Cayo Police High Speed Chase Ends in Accident and Drug Bust

At 8:25 p.m. on May 1st, while police were conducting mobile patrol within San Ignacio Town, they observed a brown pick-up approaching  from the direction of Benque Viejo at a very high speed.  Police signaled the driver to stop, however; he continued driving at the same speed.  Police then set chase behind the vehicle which later overturned on Buena Vista Street just in front of the Police Station.

“Sometime around 8:25 p. m. yesterday, 1st May, the Quick Response Team was patrolling the Benque Viejo road when their attention was drawn to Brown on colour pick-up coming at a high speed.  As a result, they came approximating the vehicle vlcsnap-2014-05-02-18h00m42s172and border the drive to turn over.  As a result, they set chase at the vehicle, which went on to Stanton Street, then, into Buena Vista Street and came down the Police Station.  Whilst approaching the Police Station, the vehicle overturned causing it to end in the Police parking lot, and as a result of that, three other vehicles parked at the time, were hit by the said vehicle.  A male person ran out of the pick-up who was caught immediately, and the driver stayed inside the vehicle”.

Police then conducted a search in the vehicle which led to the discovery of a red sack on the front passenger seat which contained 28 pounds of suspected cannabis. A further search of the vehicle led to the discovery of another sack behind the driver’s seat which contained 20 pounds to suspected cannabis.

vlcsnap-2014-05-02-18h18m48s200Sergeant Jaime Gonzalez: “Police searched the pick-up in which they found two crocus sacks, one red in color and one white in colour, which contained suspected cannabis.  Both persons were detained and in their presence, the suspected cannabis was weighed, which amounted to 48 pounds in total.  The vehicle was extensively damaged and as well as other vehicles, a black TOYOTA car and a Ford Ranger Pick up, sustained minor injuries likewise on by police officers.  So far, these two individuals have been identified as Roland Ranique Rivers, 32 years, from Belize City address, and Paul Rubio Morgan from a Mahogany Heights address.  So far, they have been charged with various traffic offenses, that, being the driver, Mr. Paul Morgan.  Also, they have been charged with the offense of Drug Trafficking, the persons occupying the vehicles sustained minor injuries”.

Police have since detained 32-year-old Roland Ranique Rivers, Belizean driver of #77 Daisy Hornby Street, Belize City and 39-year-old Paul Rubio Morgan, Belizean contractor of Mahogany Heights pending charges.
