Cervantes murder investigation; rounding up suspects

It has been almost 48 hours since the lifeless body of Ramon Cervantes Sr. was found buried in an abandoned farm on the road to Honey Camp Lagoon 5 to 6 miles east of Orange Walk Town. About 700 hundred people from Orange Walk and the neighbouring vlcsnap-2014-07-08-22h14m36s208 vlcsnap-2014-07-08-22h15m50s181communities crowded the streets in front of the court demanding swift justice and though reports were that several persons were in custody in connection with the murder, no charges have been levied against anyone. Today, Orange Walkenios came out in front of the court house again, and though this time in lesser numbers, there voice of unrest was equally audible.

They should start poster up the man’s picture all about so they can find out who is he and how he looks. That’s it.

I noticed that there are so many people that are out here for two days now. They are standing in the sun hot. It was raining a few minutes ago. They are not moving. Why is it so important that the community of Orange Walk show the public that they are in support of the Cervantes Family.

It is because they killed an innocent person. A person who worked hard for all he has.  That is not fair. That is why we are all out here right now. We need justice about what happened here because it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. So come on northenos lets come together.

As we told you, police have several persons in custody in relation to the murder of Cervantes and we understand that they are looking for four other persons. However, because of the ongoing investigation, police have reserved any comment on the matter. The wife of one of the persons in police custody, a resident of Guinea Grass village, says she is being victimized by members of her community. She explains that three of her relatives, including her husband, were detained by police on Saturday evening and though police have refused to tell her the reason for their detention, she believes the community is falsely accusing her relatives of having something to do with the murder of Cervantes.

That is why we are angry because they (the police) wont say. At least they should come out and say something. But they dont say anything. But the people of Guinea Grass are saying that they have them in there for murder. That is the reason why I am showing my face in my husband’s place. Because I know him; myself and my in-laws because they are innocent in all this.

Police say they are still investigating.
