Four Chinese Nationals appeared before chief Magistrate Aretha Ford in Belmopan yesterday after they were busted cultivating weed in Benque Viejo Town. Sometime around 5:30 am, members of the quick response team visited the house of 26 year old Andy Cheng in Lomas Del Rodeo Area, Benque Viejo Town. There they searched the house under the power of a warrant where they discovered 16 small plants of cannabis. Also present during the search were Hui Hui Chen, Zebo Liang and Ruifang Wu. During the arraignment, 26 year old Andy Cheng took the blame and plead guilty to the charge. As a result, the prosecution withdrew the charges for the other three. When the Magistrate asked Cheng for a reason why he should not immediately be sentenced to jail for three years, he said he didn’t know the offence was so serious and promised he would not do it again. The Magistrate took leniency on him as this was his first offence. Cheng was fined 10 thousand dollars to be paid by September. Should he default he will serve three years in prison.
