Belizean recording label releases album by Bethany Ann

Many kids dream about becoming a musician, getting signed by a music producer and performing concerts all over the world.  However, most never make it that far, especially not in Belize. It is a sad truth that our talented Belizean artists find it exceedingly difficult to make a name for themselves in the music business- more so if their music is Christian based. Mervin Budram, Director of Roots and Honors Records, saw this issue muffling the positive voices of our young Belizean artist and rose to the challenge

Mervin Budram – Director of Roots and Honors Records:

vlcsnap-2013-07-23-12h36m14s63Roots and Honors is a music recording label here in Belize.  We’re based in Belmopan.  Our desire and our goal, first and foremost, is to change the world.  My heart is to bring about a positive change to the world, using music.  We sign artists.  We listen to their lyrics.  We watch them and make sure that the message that they’re bringing is positive. We jump behind them, and we do everything that we can to push them, to develop their music.  My passion is to be an artist, but I love jumping behind artists.  I love helping, seeing people rise up, and getting behind them and helping their dreams come to life.  I decided from that point that I wanted to be a part of that.  I decided I wanted to pull something together that would help the next generation of recording artists to get to levels that they want, to help them to fulfill their dreams. Also there’s not a lot of avenues for the positive Christian community in music in Belize and as a Christian I also wanted to contribute towards that, that we can create a label that produces high quality music production that can not just stand up here in Belize, but can go internationally.

Roots and Honor Records officially launched this year and have since been working with three Belizean artists, one of which will be releasing her first album on August 24th. Bethany Ann tells us a little about her album and her starting point as a musician

Bethany Ann – Belizean Recording Artist:

vlcsnap-2013-07-23-13h01m23s54This album has ten songs on it, and it’s kind of like my diary.  I don’t really write in a diary, but the way I get my emotions out is through my music.  It is basically a journey of the past few years for me.  I’m just growing in God, and growing in relationships, and moving past obstacles. I have been banging on the piano since I can remember.  I couldn’t play but I would just mess around, and I would sing with my Mom.  From the age of eight I started playing and taking lessons, and [by] 8 or 9 I was writing songs.

She shared with us what she hopes to achieve with the release of this album

vlcsnap-2013-07-23-13h00m58s65What I’m hoping and praying is that this album can encourage girls, especially about my age and younger.  I want them to know that it’s OK if they’re not perfect yet, that it is a journey throughout their life, and I want this to be an encouragement to them.  Keep writing your songs.  Keep practicing.  Keep singing, ‘cause you never know when the opportunity will come, and you just have to be ready when it comes.

The official launching of her album will be held on August 24th at the George Price Centre. Anyone interested in obtaining a copy of the CD, can do so at The Snow Shack, Formosa, and The Covenant Book store for $20 dollars Belize. The album will also be available on iTunes.
