Collective Bargaining Agreement Signed by CWU and Port of Belize

It began with much back and forth  over several years, strikes, and hard talk, but negotiations took a peaceful and cordial course and now a new Collective Agreement has finally been signed between the Belize Port Authority (BPA) and the Christian Workers Union (CWU).  That signing took place at the Labour Department Conference Room  in Belize City.  Under the new CA, some 48 CWU Members employed at BPA will over the next four years realize a 12% increase in salaries.  Additionally, Members will get increases in other benefits covered.   According to  Ports Commissioner Mrs. Merlene Martinez,

In the months ahead, the Authority will move into its expanded headquarters at Mile 4 on the George Price Highway inclusive of a fully equipped training facilitySigning the CA for BPA were Board Chairman Mrs. Ruth Staine Dawson, Ports Commissioner Mrs. Merlene Martinez and the BPA Human Resources Manager Ms. Tanya Aguilar.  Signatories for CWU were President Matura-Shepherd, General Secretary Floyd Neal and BPA Chief Union Representative Mr. Edmond Staine.  Labour Commissioner Mr. Ivan Williams witnessed the signing.
