On Monday, contracts were signed for Lot 4 of the 4th Road Project, to begin works for the Santa Elena/San Ignacio Bypass Project. This includes the upgrading of Joseph Andrews Drive in San Ignacio, up to its intersection with the Benque Viejo Road. The project is being funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Government of Belize and was awarded to Norman Reimer of A & N Construction. Present for the ceremony was Minister of Transport and Works, the Hon. Rene Montero.

What we will be signing today is Lot 4 of the Fort Road Project, known as the Santa Elena / San Ignacio By-pass. Lot 4 of this project involves the upgrading of Joseph Andrews Drive up to the intersection with Benque Viejo Road. This project went through the normal bidding process and the Selection Committee recommended to CDB that Mr Norman Reimer of A & N Construction be awarded this contract. CDB has now given its non-objection rule, thus the signing of this contract today. The importance of this project is that it will bring much needed economic benefit to the area, and employment.
The Ministry of Works will be assisted by supervision consultants, Becker International Consultants Limited. The works are expected to be completed in eighteen months.
