Major road upgrades are to take place along the Demonstration Corridor, namely, the George Price Highway. This will be done through the Belize Road Safety Demonstration Corridor Project which was first launched in May of 2013 and is being implemented through a $14,495,000 Belize dollar loan from the CDB, and GOB counterpart contribution of $3,191,000 Belize dollar.
This first step project is a two part project which will be implement Road Safety Furniture and delineation- lot 2 of the project- and also resealing of the road- lot 3 of the project. The contracts for the two lots of the project were signed yesterday at the Ministry of Works and Transport Conference Room in Belmopan. The 12 month contracts for lots 2 and 3 were awarded to Teichroeb and Sons, and M&R Constructions Ltd. respectively.
Errol Gentle, CEO of Ministry of Works and Transport in the presence of Yvonne Hyde, CEO of Economic Development signed the contract on behalf of the Government of Belize. Works will done along the George Price Highway under lot 2 will include installation of safety barriers, pedestrian crossings, chevron signs, warning signs and delineation- road marking and installation of road studs.
Works done under lot 3 include resealing of section of the George Price Highway where the running surface is presently made of limestone chippings. Yvone Hyde told the media yesterday, that if everything goes as scheduled, works will conclude midyear of 2015.
