Couple chopped to death in Paraiso

Jealousy is believed to have been the motive a brutal double murder in the village of Paraiso, Corozal District.

According to reports a man and a woman were found dead in a farm about 3/4 miles North East of Paraiso Village, at around 7:00 am on Sunday  December 14th.

Neighbours say that at around 6:00 am on the same day screams could be heard coming from the direction of the farm.

Clemente Barera is a resident of the village.

[Translated] “They just had a few days they had been living there.  They just completed fourteen days yesterday of being together, because the lady sytayed with the other guy that killed them.  At least, that’s what they say.”

vlcsnap-2014-12-16-05h39m00s219Upon making inspections, police discovered the lifeless body of 23 year old Heidy Atherly, lying face up on the ground beside some plantain trees. Further inspections made inside a small concrete building revealed the lifeless body of 49 year old Salvadoran National Fernando Rivas, Cane-cutter of Paraiso Village, Corozal, lying face up beside the bed. Both persons were observed with multiple chop wounds to the head, neck and upper limbs.

The bodies now lie at the Corozal Community Hospital Morgue awaiting a post mortem examination.

Corozal Police have detained 67 year old Salvadoran farmer of Paraiso Village pending charges.

Police believe the motive to have been fueled by jealousy.
