On Thursday parties to the case between the Sarstoon Temash Institute for Indigenous Management (SATIIM)and the Government of Belize learned their date for trial in the case, which is October 22 and 23 to be held before Justice Michelle Arana. Both SATIIM executive director Greg Ch’oc and US Capital representative Alistair King attended court for a short case management conference this morning. SATIIM is seeking the court’s declarations that National Parks are sacrosanct and not designated for commercial activities, and whatever decision the court takes with respect to this, the role of the indigenous people who have communal rights must be respected as the Government allegedly failed to do.
