On Friday we told you that the Cross Country Classic for women had been indefinitely postponed as stated through a release from the Cycling Association. Subsequent to that story we learned from the Association that the race was back on again. They said that after further consultation with legal counsel, the association was satisfied that they would not be infringing on the legal process before the Courts if they continued with their calendar of races. The race took place as scheduled on Sunday, May 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. from San Ignacio Town and finishing in Belize City at Leslie’s Imports. Former champion Shalini Zabaneh outran the field almost from the start, eventually finishing ten minutes ahead of rival and defending champion Kaya Cattouse, who finished second, while Kerah Eiley placed third. Our congratulations go out to all who participated. Meanwhile, the Association continues to wrangle with incumbent president Emil Moreno, who is challenging in the courts the results of an election in the Western Zone executive held after the Protest Committee overturned the results of a prior election that he won.
