The Preliminary Results for the May-June 2014 sitting of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) have been released. Three thousand forty-nine candidates sat 32 of the 35 subjects offered at the CSEC level. This number represents a decrease of 1.8% from last year. The number of subject entries receiving Grades I-III has steadily increased for the past three years: 74.1% in 2012 to 75.1% in 2013 and 76.5% in 2014.
For the past three years, four subjects have maintained above 90% of the subject entries receiving Grades I-III. These subjects are: Agricultural Science Single Award, Building Technology (Woods), Electronic Document Preparation and Management, and Integrated Science.
Four subjects sat in May-June 2014 demonstrated notable improvements, including Mathematics receiving 63.8% which represents an increase of 20.7% more than in 2013 and Physics with 86.7% (319) which is 6.9% more than in 2013. Eight subjects exhibited a decrease in the percentage of satisfactory Grades I-III. Among those are Caribbean History, English A and B, and Social Studies.
