A slow and laid back Friday morning was interrupted, when a shooting was reported immediately following reports of a robbery which took place in Scotia Bank, Belmopan branch.
“Shortly before 10, this morning, we received a call that someone has been robbed at Scotia Bank”.
However, according to reports, this was not the only establishment that the person in question visited.
ASP Joel Gillet: “Prior to going to Scotia Bank to do the robbery, he allegedly robbed an Indian store nearby to Scotia Bank”.
However, he put on some clothes under the pretext that he was trying them out and simply walked over to Scotia Bank, with $210 worth of clothing.
The proprietor told us that his employee ran after him and waited for him outside the bank thinking that the man went to the bank to withdraw money so that he can pay. However, it would appear he had other intentions.
ASP Joel Gillet: “A customer was depositing some money and he grabbed that money from the counter where the customer was depositing and ran. Before we reach that location where an on duty police officer was nearby, the matter was reported to him and he pursued the guy”.
He then reportedly jumped through this fence in an attempt to escape.
However, according to witnesses, the dog that guards this property chased him out and that is when he made his way to Slim Lane, located at the back of Print Belize, beside the Ministry of Works. There the police officer in pursuit caught up with him.
ASP Joel Gillet: “He went on the opposite side near Ministry of Works where he encountered the guy. The man had a machete with him; he walked up to the police with the machete, and the police fired three shots, injuring in the abdomen and the left leg. He is at the Western Regional Hospital.
