Customs Officer Perishes in Road Traffic Accident

vlcsnap-2014-05-29-20h50m02s214There was a fatal traffic accident this afternoon at mile two on the George Price Highway. The incident happened around 2:30 this afternoon  and claimed the life of a customs officer.

Frank Robinson aka “Mango” was driving a Gray Isuzu D-Max, property of the Government of Belize and was travelling with two other men when the pick-up truck was hit by a green dump truck property of Imer Hernandez Construction.

The driver of the dump truck told our colleagues at KREM radio that both he and Robinson were headed in the same direction as if travelling to Belize City.

vlcsnap-2014-05-29-19h22m38s203They had just passed one of the newly constructed speed bumps and he was picking up speed when all of a sudden, Robinson made a u-turn and though he blared his horn, his dump truck slammed into the driver’s side of the D-Max causing serious damages, while his dump truck remained practically undamaged.

vlcsnap-2014-05-29-19h21m46s165Fire officials and first responders arrived on the scene and fire officials worked feverishly for over half hour to extract Robinson who was stuck in the vehicle.

As they worked, BERT personnel were doing everything possible to keep him conscious. But it was too late for Robinson: when he arrived at the hospital it was only to be pronounced dead.
