As they had been forewarned, the Christian Workers Union (CWU) has been expelled from the umbrella group of the National Trade Union Congress of Belize (NTUCB). About 11 days ago, the umbrella union sent out a press release making its position clear; that CWU is compelled to stick to the timeline-in the month of August- which President Antonio Gonzalez had publicly committed to. According to a press release issued this morning, NTUCB’S decision to expel CWU was anonymously agreed upon at a general council meeting convened on Monday, October 28th. The NTUCB further stated that it will be keeping a close watch over CWU, in the aftermath of its expulsion. According to the press release, this will be done in the view of ensuring that the Union is stabilized, to chart the way forward for all of CWU members and that its members acquire, the proper representation they so deserver.” The press release went on to say that the NTUCB stands ready to re-instate the CWU’s membership upon the installment of a constitutional executive and compliance with other obligations.
