Dennis Rajiv Gonguez Jr shot dead in Belize City

vlcsnap-2013-04-30-21h44m48s195The streets of Belize City have been relatively quiet unaffected by gun violence for the past few weeks, but last night, shots rang out at a busy intersection and when gun smoke cleared, a young man laid wounded on the street. PLUS News was called out to the corner of North Front Street and Gabourel Lane just before 6, where we learned that 21 year old Dennis Rajiv Gonguez Jr, and another man identified as Jaime Marin were leaving the Brown Sugar Marketplace which is home to businesses including the San Pedro Belize Express water taxi service, when they a man walked up to them and fired shots at Gonguez. Witnesses describe the man as being of dark vlcsnap-2013-04-30-21h44m13s105complexion, wearing a white shirt, ¾ blue jeans and a peak cap. Gonguez was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital, but passed away at 6:11 that night. An outpouring of heartrending messages flooded Gonguez’s Facebook page since his death was announced, where family and friends described him as humble, funny and a good father. Dennis Rajiv Gonguez was the father of a little girl and the son of Chief Meteorologist Dennis Gonguez Sr. While Police were processing the scene, they retrieved two slugs and three 9mm expended shells, one belonging to an Aquila brand and the other a Luger brand. They are currently looking for a Belize City resident in connection with the shooting and the motive for his death, the first by shooting since April 1, is not yet known
