Two prominent doctors and other staff members of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital have been fired; but reports are that they are not leaving quietly. Dr. Alain Gonzalez and Dr. Salvador Pagagua were escorted out of the hospital by security after their terminations. Following the terminations, KHMH staff have been holding emergency labour meetings and we understand that legal proceedings have started. Yesterday, the KHMH Ad Hoc committee – which was formed during labour tensions in 2015, issued a press release saying that , and we quote, “..several staff of the KHMHA have been terminated in contravention of labour laws…and the KHMH Procedures manual,” The KHMH AD Hoc committee also said that they find, quote, “ …to be distasteful and very troubling in the way these dismissals were carried out.” Plus news understands that the Director of Human Resources and the Director of Medical services are being blamed for the terminations which were allegedly without cause. We understand that the doctors have sought legal representation and filed an appeal. The board is meeting this Thursday to review that appeal. In the meantime, the AD Hoc committee along with the staff is asking for the immediate removal of Director of Human resources Ixchell Murillo and Director of Medical Services, Dr Lisa Johnson. When we called the KHMH Administration today, we were told that the matter in an internal one and since legal proceedings have started, there would be no comment at this time.
