Dogs Kill a Man; Police Say, not Minister’s Dogs

vlcsnap-2014-07-01-21h25m52s251Yesterday we reported on the gruesome killing of a man in Independence. His killers were two pit bulls allegedly guarding the home of  Senator Joy Grant Minister of Energy, Science and Technology.

There were several conflicting information coming out of Independence Village.  One version of the story was that on Friday June 28th, 23 year old Jeffery O’brien of Independence Village was bitten by two pitbulls which belonged to Minister Joy Grant and later succumbed to his injuries.

Another version of the story said that the two pit-bulls belonged to the neighbor of Joy Grant and not to Joy Grant herself. Today a police press release confirmed that the Minister of Energy is not under police scrutiny.

vlcsnap-2014-07-01-21h27m42s74According to police reports at around 11:30 pm on that same day,  a 17 year old male minor was heading home on his bicycle when he reportedly saw O’brien lying on the road side gasping for air. O’brien was transported to the Independence Poly Clinic where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to police, the two pit-bulls, which are now in police custody, belonged to the 17 year old minor who lives in a small house which is also adjacent to Joy Grant’s fenced property.

However, very reliable sources, tell us that the 17 year old minor is the caretaker for the property and that the dogs stay inside Joy Grant’s vlcsnap-2014-07-01-21h24m58s210fenced yard as seen in the pictures provided to us.

The minister’s house was burglarized a few months ago and the caretaker lives in a small building on the Minister’s property. Plus News was told that the dogs may have come out of the fenced yard via a hole the dogs dug under the fence.

According to Independence police, however, they have determined that the dogs do not belong to Minister Grant and so she is not under investigation.
