World Cancer Day was celebrated on February 4. In commemoration of the day, numerous activities have been held countrywide to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. Two persons have taken that awareness further by donating 50,000 dollars to the Belize Cancer Centre in Dangriga. Plus TV’s Dangriga correspondent has more on that story.
HARRY ARZU – Dangriga Correspondent:
Two prominent citizens of the municipality made a donation of fifty thousand dollars to the Belize Cancer Center here in Dangriga, at a recent handing over event. Dellone Pascascio, the Chief Executive Officer at the Center, informed Plus News that the money will be used as a down payment towards purchasing a parcel of land measuring 5 acres in size. Mr Pascascio commented that the land, which is located near the Southern Regional hospital, will be used to build a new facility, in an effort to accommodate safe parking, increase the comfort to cancer patients and their families, and most importantly to have immediate access to the Southern Regional Hospital. Mr Pascascio ended by saying that the new and enhanced Cancer Center will also improve access availability and quality of Cancer care to Belizeans. Norma and William Bowman were kind enough to donate the much needed funds.
