A double murder occurred yesterday evening in broad daylight in the town of Orange Walk. Just a few feet away was 19-year-old Erlindo Matura with gunshot wounds to the left side of his back and chest. Both young men resided on Gristock Street and police say that their initial investigation revealed that at 4:30p.m. on Monday February 1, while Matura, Acevedo and a 16-year-old minor were standing on Gristock Street, they were approached by a male person who asked them who sells marijuana in the area. The male person then rode off and a short distance away, took out a handgun and fired a single shot which caught Acevedo in the back of the head. The male person then pointed the gun at Matura and fired a single shot which caught him in his upper back. The minor, realizing what was happening, immediately ran from the area with the male person firing shots at him. The minor managed to escape unhurt but both Matura and Acevedo were pronounced dead on arrival at the Northern regional hospital. Police continue their investigations as Orange Walk now faces its third murder since the beginning of the year.
